Happy Halloween!

Objectives: Today I will solve a "murder" mystery

Homework: Unit Project & Reflection (typed and printed!) due tomorrow!
  • Unit Project Instructions
  • Reflection Graphic Organizer
  • Reflection Example

Agenda:
  • The Scenario
    • At 9:30am on Friday, Angela Danes -- head cheerleader, first in line for valedictorian, homecoming queen -- was mysteriously pushed down the stairs in the stairwell just outside the front office!
    • Don’t worry, she was not mortally wounded. She did suffer two broken legs, three cracked ribs, and a traumatic brain injury though.
    • She didn’t see who pushed her, but she gave Assistant Principal Bell names of the people who may have wanted to hurt her.
    • By 10:30am, Mr. Bell rounded up all of the suspects (you and your classmates) and brought them here to our classroom while we wait for the police to arrive and start their investigation. But we decided to have an investigation of our own...
  • Directions:
    • Everyone will receive a character card including: how you know Angela & background information that may or may not be pertinent to solving the crime.
    • ONE of you is the assailant; everyone else is innocent
  • To the Innocents:
    • Your objective is to figure out who pushed Angela.
    • Ask questions to determine who the culprit is
    • You may not ask anyone if they pushed Angela -- ask questions to
      figure it out!
    • Tell the truth to the best of your ability
    • You can elaborate on your backstory as long as it makes sense with the character
  • To the Assailant
    • Your objective is to avoid being found out, but you can’t lie! You don’t have to give up all of your information, but you must answer questions honestly. Blend in by asking questions and do your best to act as though you are fully cooperating while keeping your secrets to yourself!
  • Directions:
    • You may not show your character card to anyone else!
    • Use your note sheet to keep track of the information given to you!
    • ~10 minutes before class ends, you’ll tell me who you think the assailant is!
    • More students than characters, so we’ll make two groups! Only interact with characters in the same color group!
  • Example Questions:
    • Why were you in the hallway?
    • How well do you know Angela?
    • Have you had any arguments with Angela recently?
    • Who do you think pushed Angela?
    • How do you feel about what happened to her?
    • What sports do you play?
    • What is your GPA?
    • Did you hear anything?
    • These are just suggestions! Come up with your own questions as the game progresses!
  • Finding the Assailant
    • List two characters (besides yourself) who you know are innocent. How do you know?
    • List one red herring, or misleading clue. Why did you think it was important?
    • Who do you think is guilty? Why?
  • Cleaning Up
    • Turn in your accusation sheet.
    • Give me back the character cards.
    • Have a fun (& SAFE) Halloween!
