  • and write my introduction

Homework: 
  • Finish writing Introduction paragraph (hook & background information; will get thesis information tomorrow!)
  • OPTIONAL: Vocabulary Quiz Corrections due Friday 2/14

Agenda: 
  • Announcements
    • You'll be getting vocabulary quizzes and other papers back today
    • Nonfiction quizzes coming soon! (If you needed more time/were absent when we took the quiz, it will be in your Charger Time class tomorrow!)
  • Vocabulary Quiz Corrections
    • For the words that you missed, write: 
      • The definition in your own words
      • The part of speech
      • The corrected sentence from your quiz with the correct form/use/spelling
      • Attach to your quiz & resubmit!
    • Helpful website: www.vocabulary.com/dictionary
    • Example:
      • Word: Ravage
      • Part of Speech: Verb
      • Definition: To ruin or destroy something
      • (Original Sentence - do not have to rewrite because it will be on your original attached quiz): The Australia bushfires have ravaging forests.
      • Corrected Sentence: The Australia bushfires have ravaged forests, leaving nothing behind.
    • Note: I have the grades for these quizzes written down, but they are not yet entered on Skyward. I am a human who sometimes makes mistakes and writes/enters grades wrong! Do not get rid of your quiz until you are positive that the grade has been entered correctly in Skyward.
  • Essay Puzzle
    • Get into groups of 3-4
    • YOUR TASK: Put the pieces of the essay into the correct order
    • NOTE: The pieces do not match physically - you will need to look at the CONTENT of each section to determine where it goes.
    • Show Mrs. Weber when you’re done!

    • Should be 1-2 sentences
  • Types of Hooks

    • Quotations
    • See the chart in your packet for more information and examples of each type of hook.
  • Try out some hooks!
    • ​Choose two types of hooks from the chart in your packet and practice writing hooks about your topic that you could use to start your essay.
    • Share your hooks with your table partner(s)
    • Which hook did you like best for your essay?
  • Background Information​
    • Gives basic information you think the reader should know about your topic
    • About 1-2 sentences
    • Consider: What is your topic? Where is it? When/where did it happen?​
