Objectives: Today I will discuss motifs from the readers' workshop books with my classmates.

Homework:

• Study for the Vocabulary Quiz next Wednesday 10/23
  • ​You will need to be able to define the words on your graphic organizer and use them in a sentence.
    
• Keep bringing your Readers' Workshop book to class!
  

Agenda: 

• Read the following passage and identify a motif:
  • ​I felt the anger rising within me like a lion ready for the kill. I can’t believe she could just look at me and say she thought I had no talent. Her words clawed at my hopes of becoming a great musician and  I wasn’t sure the tear could be mended. I paced the stage like a beast and plotted how I would respond to her indifferent words, “We’ll be in touch. Next!” Unfortunately, no words came from my mouth. Just the loud panting of someone who has lost all hope. I walked out of the spotlight and into my song-less future; the animal within me had been caged.

  • Have your graphic organizer out on your desk.
    
• Discussing Motifs
  
  • ​Meet in groups of students reading the same Readers' Workshop book as you
    
  • Discuss motifs (recurring colors, numbers, images, ideas) in your book
    
  • Write them down so I can compile a list!
    
• Read until the end of class
